A Link Queue Model of Network Traffic Flow

Fundamental to many transportation network studies, traffic flow models can be used describe dynamics determined by drivers’ car-following, lane-changing, merging, and diverging behaviors. In this study, we develop a deterministic queueing model of flow, in which on each link is considered as queue. the queue (LQM), demand supply are defined size (number vehicles), its in- out-flows computed from junction flux functions corresponding macroscopic merging rules. The new system ordinary differential equations that mathematically tractable computationally efficient capture spillbacks interactions among links. We further demonstrate LQM fundamentally different cell transmission (CTM) (LTM) for road segment, signalized ring road, diverge-merge network, with respect shock rarefaction waves, fundamental diagram, stability property. sense, space-continuous approximation kinematic wave useful addition multiscale modeling framework flow. has been applied formulate solve control observation problems.
